I chose the Individual Development Program to help guide my career towards my focused goals. I first learned how to build websites while taking Communication Design classes at the Community College of Denver, where I earned an Associate degree in Applied Science in Business Computer Information Systems. Learning every skill possible concerning web development became my passion. Prior to starting at MSU Denver, I was building websites using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP. Back then, I knew that was only the beginning of a continual learning journey to take my skills to where I wanted and needed them to be. As a result, I chose systems security and website administration as my future concentrations.

During COVID lockdown I found my greatest passion of all. Working with SEO. Search engine optimization is a set of technical and content practices aimed at aligning a website page with a search engine's ranking algorithm so it can be easily found, crawled, indexed, and surfaced in the search engine results page for relevant queries. SEO is the process of maximizing the number of visitors to a particular website by ensuring that the site appears high on the list of results returned by search engines. I spent every day of that year of quarantine learning about every SEO technique possible. I researched and experimented with every SEO strategy that would allow Google to audit my websites to ensure they were of the highest quality.

Sure enough, after relentless research, my hard work paid off. Google put me at the top of the rankings, scoring each with a 100. At one point, I was getting over 700 visits a day from several countries around the world. Using Google Console reveals what needs to be fixed, and using Google Analytics allows you to track real-time visits. Everything I learned about SEO would not have happened if I had not gained the knowledge and skills that my IDP plan allowed. After COVID lockdown ended, I began taking upper-level Web Administration, Communication Design, Information Systems Security, and Cybersecurity classes, all of which are individual, separate technical fields and are each part of the definitions of how SEO functions and works.

My in-depth knowledge of each of these fields makes me an outstanding candidate to enter the web development, web administration, and search engine optimization fields. This has been my future goal. To specialize in each one of these individual technical fields. My Individualized Studies Program in Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems has fully prepared me to excel in each one of these positions. I am extremely knowledgeable about website design, development, administration, and SEO best practices and trends, and I relish the analytical and technical depths of the industry. Also, my previous work experience in business, including Web Design and Development, Customer service, and Computer Technician internships, makes me a superior candidate for any position within these specialized fields. These are my desires, passions, hobbies, and most favorable fields of work. I find them all exciting, rewarding, and fulfilling.

Introduction to the technologies used in this website

All language technologies are written in a source code editor, creating unique individual files. Each file is written in a markup, scripting, or programming language containing individual file extensions. Each is an individual language with different protocols. All files are linked together through inline tags and work in conjunction to create the overall appearance and functionality of the website. All files are delivered to the web browser via HTTP, a transfer protocol for hypertext, linking the world wide web.

Hypertext Markup Language

HTML is the standard markup language for creating web pages and web applications. HTML provides the basic structure of sites, which is enhanced and modified by CSS and JavaScript, the three core Web technologies. HTML uses tags to define elements within a document. In web design and development, the two most popular markup languages are HTML and XML.

Cascading Style Sheets

CSS, written in style sheet language, is used to describe the appearance of HTML's format. CSS describes how HTML elements should be displayed. CSS is designed to enable the separation of presentation and content, including layout, colors, and fonts. It is also used with other markup languages, like SVG or XML.

JavaScript

JS is a high-level scripting and client-side programming language used in conjunction with HTML and CSS. JavaScript helps web developers make web pages dynamic and interactive by implementing custom client-side scripts. JavaScript can create complex Web pages that behave like desktop software applications.

Hypertext Preprocessor

PHP is an open-source, server-side scripting language used for the development of web applications. It is a general-purpose programming language. In computer software, a general-purpose programming language is a programming language designed to be used for writing software in the widest variety of application domains. A general-purpose programming language has this status because it does not include language constructs designed to be used within a specific application domain.

Extensible Markup Language

XML is a language for designing specialized markup languages. Extensible means it allows users to create their own markup to describe content, making an unlimited and self-defining markup set. Each contains a Document Type Definition (DTD), which is a collection of rules defining the content and structure of a valid document in that category. They also contain a schema file (XSD), used in conjunction with XML and DTD, that contains validation rules for allowed content.
